LITTLE CURRENT—Police were called to the scene of a single vehicle collision at the corner of Manitowaning Road and Meredith Street in Little Current to discover the large sign directing visitors to Low Island Park had been destroyed in the accident.
The incident occurred around 9:20 pm on Saturday, December 10. While speaking to the driver police observed signs of impairment and the driver was arrested and the vehicle towed and impounded.

Craig McGregor, 44, of Whitefish River First Nation was charged with operation while impaired and driving while under suspension and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on January 18, 2023.

The Expositor is releasing the alleged impaired driver’s name as part of its policy of identifying those charged with impaired driving and joins the OPP in reminding motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive.

The Little Current BIA is hoping to recoup the loss of the award-winning sign through an insurance claim.

Should you observe an impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and help keep Manitoulin’s roads safe both this holiday season and throughout the rest of the year.
