MANITOULIN—For a long-time visitor to Manitoulin (who has family ties to the Island), proposing to his girlfriend at the Bridal Veil Falls in Kagawong turned out be even more special than he had anticipated after he helped a man in the area get his drone off a cliff.
“Everything worked out better than I could have hoped,” stated Austin Douglas Cooper. “This moment has been forever captured in a timeless video as well as at a timeless place on the Island.” He proposed to his girlfriend Isha Sharma at one of his favourite places, Bridal Veil Falls in Kagawong.
Mr. Cooper is the son of Kim and Dave Cooper and the grandson of Doug and Betty Heis of Little Current. “Austin and Isha both live in Uxbridge, Ontario and Austin has been coming (and loving) the Island all his life,” said Ms. Heis. “As a baby, he slept in a drawer the first time he came here because we didn’t have a crib for him. He has spent many summers on the Island with us.”
Mr. Cooper explained, “I took Isha to Bridal Veil Falls with the intention of proposing to her. While I was setting up the tripod and contemplating the timing, I saw that someone’s drone was stuck on a cliff. They needed help as it was out of reach. So, I decided to assist the man by giving him my tripod. He was able to extend it and get his drone down.”
“When everything settled down, I saw this as my opportunity to set up the tripod again and get down on my knee and ask Isha if she would marry me,” continued Mr. Cooper. “In our intimate moment I had not realized that the drone pilot, whose name I learned was Jacob Duquette, had been capturing our special moment through his, now rescued, drone. To show his gratitude he had taken a beautiful video of our joy and happiness as Isha said yes to the question of a lifetime.”
