OAKVILLE—The Heather (Graham) Heggestad curling rink has qualified for the 2018 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Ms. Heggestad is a Haweater, having been born and raised in Gore Bay. Her rink, representing the Oakville Curling Club, qualified for the provincials in a Challenge event held recently. The Heggestad skipped rink includes lead Lauren Harrison, second Michelle Laidlaw, vice Ginger VanYmeren.

“We qualified for the provincials by going undefeated at a Challenge event held at the Leaside Club in Toronto,” Ms. Heggestad told the Recorder.

She explained, “the Challenge was held at the Leaside Club in Toronto. We played three games (winning all three) to come out of the A side.”

There are a total of 12 rinks taking part in the 2018 Scotties Tournament of Champions being hosted by the Whitby Curling Club this weekend. They include Team Hailey Armstrong from the Rideau Curling Club, Team Cathy Auld of the Listowel Curling Club, Team Chrissy Cardorin of the Royal Canadian Curling Club, Team Hollie Duncan of the Royal Canadian Curling Club, Team Allison Flaxey from the Granite Club (Toronto), Team Jacqueline Harrison of the Mississauga Golf and Country Club, Team Danielle Inglis of the Dixie Curling Club, Team Kirsten Marshall of the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club, Team Sherry Middaugh of the Coldwater and District Curling Club, Team Julie Tippin, of the Woodstock Curling Club and team Katelyn Wasylkiw of the Unionville Curling Club.

“There are many good teams playing at provincials, all of whom have worked hard to get there,” said Ms. Heggestad. “Our chances are as good as the rest of the teams. We just have to play well, have some fun, and a little luck never hurts.”
