KAGAWONG— Tucked between two houses ‘below the hill’ on Main Street, Hawg Eater’s Slow Smoked BBQ may be one of Kagawong’s best kept secrets. The mouth watering baked beans and pulled pork are sure to satisfy your hunger after a day of exploring the hiking trails and shops.

From June to September, owners Sandra and Wayne Tuffin are proud to cook and serve up “good homemade food.” (With the exception of the sausages and jumbo hot dogs, everything is homemade). Their portable kiosk with its cedar exterior and bright yellow signs and chalkboard menu is located right across the street from Boo Bah Lou Candy Cabin.

Pulled pork on a bun, baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad are just a few of the items offered on the menu. Or you can try a redneck wrap, which is barbecued beans, pulled pork, cheese, and lettuce, topped off with homemade barbecue sauce and served in a soft tortilla.

With plans to offer specials including ribs and possibly add a covered dining area, the couple is pleased to be part of the business community in Ontario’s prettiest village.

Open daily from 11 am to 7 pm and Saturday’s until 6 pm,the Tuffins are happy to accommodate boaters’ schedules and provide made from scratch food cooked in their propane fired woodstove.

“We love Kagawong,” shared Mr. Tuffin, “and wanted to set up here. It’s a nice little town.” When they are not in Kagawong the couple can be found serving up slow barbecued fare at annual events like Haweater Weekend, this weekend in Little Current, and most recently RIDE Manitoulin in Providence Bay.
