Greater Sudbury Police Services Board Chair Steps Aside

SUDBURY–The Greater Sudbury Police Services Board confirms that it has been made aware this morning that Gerry Lougheed Jr. was served a summons by the OPP and that they are proceeding with charges against him.

Mr. Lougheed has notified the Board that effective immediately he is stepping aside as Board Chair and Member and will not be fulfilling any of his duties, functions, and responsibilities as a Board Member until such time this matter has been concluded.

Vice Chair Caldarelli has assumed the position of Board Chair effective this date.

The Board is confident in the judicial process and has no further comment.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service Board is a civilian Board that governs the Greater Sudbury Police Service under Police Services Act. The Board provides direction and guidance to the Greater Sudbury Police Service while ensuring that adequate and effective police services are provided in accordance with the needs of the municipality.
