GORDON—Delaney Madore of Gordon-Barrie Island was selected as first princess in the Miss Trillium Canada competition held this past weekend in Toronto.
“I was selected as first princess for Miss Trillium Canada,” stated Delaney when contacted by the Recorder Monday evening. She explained, “there were 12 contestants in the competition from around Canada, mostly from Ontario.”
“For this competition we had to do a self introduction for judges,” said Delaney, noting contestants also had to take part in the cocktail dress, swimwear and evening dress events as part of the competition. “Then each contestant had to answer a final question, with mine being, ‘if you could go on a date with anyone who would it be?’ I said, my boyfriend.”
Ms. Madore had been invited to take part by the director of the competition, Michael Fillion, who also used to run the Miss Earth Canada competition, she explained.
“I’m entered in the Miss Northern Ontario competition being held this May,” said Ms. Madore. She is also looking to compete in the Miss Canada Perfect competition, being held in August.
And, as if she isn’t busy enough, Ms. Madore organized a fundraising volleyball tournament in late February. Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer will be the benefactors of this fundraising initiative.

“Volleyball is my favourite sport and I was looking at creating an event that would involve it (volleyball),” said Ms. Madore. So she organized the Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer fundraising volleyball tournament on February 20 at Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS).
“Things went really good,” said Ms. Madore. “We raised $500,” she said, explaining the funds raised, “will go to the NOFCC Charity for the families of children with cancer; they provide bursaries and scholarships for students.”
A total of five teams took part in the tournament, (won by a team from Wikwemikong), which began at 9:30 am Saturday and continued until about 2:30 pm. “I had a lot of support putting the event on, there were a lot of parents that helped out,” added Ms. Madore.
