ZHIIBAAHAASING—The first annual Breast Cancer Walk fundraising event was held in the Zhiibaahaasing First Nation this past Saturday.

“United in Pink-Unstoppable in Pink” was one of the messages adorning a wall of t-shirts displayed in the Zhiibaahaasing community centre this past Saturday. There were pink balloons, with tables covered with pink table cloths, and banners welcoming everyone to the event.

Crystal Mossip, organizer of the event, told the Recorder last week, “we are holding our first annual breast cancer walk in Zhiibaahaasing on Saturday, November 4, with donations going toward breast cancer research.”

Walkers make their way around the community to raise funds for breast cancer.

“What we want to do is bring awareness of breast cancer,” said Ms. Mossip. Walkers departed the Zhiibaahaasing community complex  and they travelled to the Sheshegwaning church and back to the community complex, where a pot luck lunch was held.

No doubt the rainy wet weather cut down the number of participants in the walk, but seven hardy walkers took part, all wearing some or whole outfits with the colour pink.

Prizes were presented to the participants who wore the most pink clothing, and draws were held for prizes among the walkers.
