Fire bans in effect across most of Island

MANITOULIN— With the rain staying at bay and dry conditions affecting Manitoulin Island, many municipalities have either issued full or partial fire bans.

The following is a list of the municipalities and whether or not a ban has been issued: Northeast Town, fire ban, Assiginack, no fire ban; Central Manitoulin, fire ban; Billings, not issuing burn permits; Burpee-Mills, not issuing burn permits; Gordon/Barrie Island, fire ban; Tehkummah, fire ban; and Gore Bay, fire ban. The Expositor also contacted Killarney, which does not have a fire ban in place so far.
