Evansville athlete qualifies for NCAA championships

TENNESSEE – Evansville athlete Joseph Maxwell has qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) preliminary rounds, after his excellent results in two events, including a new personal best mark in the men’s shotput at the 2019 Southeast Conference (SEC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

“Joseph finished second in the men’s shot put, with a personal best of 19.33 metres,” his father Steve Maxwell told the Recorder on Tuesday. “He has now qualified for the NCAA preliminary rounds.”

The meet held this past weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas completed the 2019 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Mr. Maxwell took fifth place in the men’s discus event with his hurl of 53.52 metres
to open the competition on Saturday.
Mr. Maxwell, along with his other University of Tennessee athletes that rank in the top 48 on the DI East Regional qualifying list in their respective event(s), earned a berth to the NCAA preliminary rounds.
