In loving memory of Edna May (Dupuis) Moores who passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital in her 90th year. Daughter of the late Alexander Dupuis and the late Chloe (Brown) Dupuis. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Harold Moores. Loving mother of Robert (Bob) (predeceased), wife Barbara of Lacombe, Alberta and Karen (Pye), husband Donald (Don) Finucane of Sudbury. Predeceased by sisters Bertha and Edna and brothers Peter, George (Katherine), Roy (Diane) and Ken (Pansy). Loving grandma of Lorne Finucane (Denise), Tracy Mark (Chris), Angela Jones (George), Rob Moores and Dayton Moores (Shawna). Special great-grandma of Alena Jones and Connor Finucane and step-great-grandma of James Edkins. Lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, many friends and loved ones. Edna was born in Capreol, Ontario, on September 14, 1921. She acquired her teaching education in Toronto Normal School and started a teaching career in 1944 as the only teacher in a one room schoolhouse in Markstay, teaching grades kindergarten to ten. In 1946 Edna met and married her best friend, Harold, and subsequently interrupted her teaching career to have a family. She returned to teaching in 1953 as a supply teacher at Wm MacMillan School. She soon began teaching full-time at W.S. Gemmell Public School in Sudbury and, after acquiring her Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University in 1972, and acquiring her ?Specialist in Special Education? certificate in 1975, Edna taught special education classes in various public schools in and around the Sudbury area until her retirement in 1982. Upon her retirement Edna and Harold lived in Sheguiandah on Manitoulin Island where she was a very active member in the community. Edna enjoyed hunting, fishing, tatting, quilting, knitting and many other crafts. She was a co-founder and life-member of the Current Quilts and Stitchery Guild, a member of the Women?s Institutes of Sheguiandah and Big Lake, long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 177 Ladies Auxiliary in Little Current, receiving her 20 year pin in 2007, life member of the Little Current Lions Club, and a member of the Little Current Howland Centennial Museum advisory committee. Edna was very proud to be recognized for her volunteerism by receiving a Government of Ontario volunteer award in 2000. Edna was a very enthusiastic ?people person?. She enjoyed meeting new people as well as speaking with and spending time with family and friends. Her interests were limitless and she was always eager to embrace new and varied endeavors. She will be dearly missed. The visitation will be at Island Funeral Home, 36 Worthington Street, Little Current and the Funeral Services at the Sheguiandah United Church, followed by interment in Cold Springs Cemetery.
