MANITOULIN—The Manitoulin Expositor Salmon Classic is fast approaching and the buzz surrounding what is expected to be the largest derby in Northern Ontario is gaining momentum with ticket sales on the rise and sponsorships coming in.
The deadline for the earlybird draw of a cash prize of $500 will be held on Friday, June 24—this is a great opportunity to pick up a ticket for dear old dad in time for Father’s Day, June 19.
“All the weigh stations are lined up and ready to go,” said Salmon Classic organizer Dave Patterson. They are: South Baymouth, Carl’s Trading Post; Providence Bay, Providence Bay Tent and Trailer Park; Manitowaning, Bay Street Marina; Little Current, Wally’s Dock Service; Gore Bay, Gore Bay Marina; and Meldrum Bay, Meldrum Bay Marina.
At three weeks long, From Saturday, July 23 to Sunday, August 14, and with the fishing including all of Manitoulin Island’s territorial waters, tickets are a steal at just $60 and can be purchased from the following locations: The Manitoulin Expositor office in Little Current, the Manitoulin West Recorder office in Gore Bay, Up Top Sports Shop in Mindemoya, Trailside Sports in Espanola, Moxy’s Bait and Tackle in Lively, Ramakko’s Source for Adventure in Sudbury, online at fishmanitoulin.com or by calling 705-368-2744.
“People can’t stop talking about our amazing cash prizes of $25,000 for the top five heaviest salmon, heaviest trout and weekly prizes,” Mr. Patterson said. “On top of the cash prizes, we also have thousands of dollars’ worth of daily prizes.”

As part of the three-week long event, the Gore Bay and Little Current Fish and Game Clubs will be selling 50/50 tickets to support their worthwhile endeavours with stocking in Manitoulin Island’s waters, ensuring a fishery for generations to come.
