LITTLE CURRENT—Northeast Town Mayor Al MacNevin is pleased to announce that Duane Deschamps, a 13-year veteran of the department, has been appointed chief of the Northeast Fire Department.

Former Chief Darren Bailey, who guided the department for over 12 years, was unable to continue in the role for personal reasons.

“This is an outstanding department and we are very proud of our firefighters,” said Mayor MacNevin.  “They have proven their abilities over and over again, and I am confident that under the leadership and direction of Chief Deschamps they will continue to excel.”

Fire Chief Deschamps said that “he welcomes this opportunity to contribute to the growth of the department and that it is an honour and a privilege to be associated with such an amazing group of firefighters.”

“I have been  with the Northeast Town Fire Department for 13 years, and on a mix of fire departments for 17 years,” added Fire Chief Deschamps. “I look forward to growing the department with the officers.”

The NEMI Fire Department is a volunteer department that provides emergency response services for the land-based portion of the Northeast Town.  The department generally has a contingent of up to 18 volunteers and operates out of fire stations located both in the Town of Little Current and the Hamlet of Sheguiandah.
