ESPANOLA—The Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board (DSB) has ratified a new contract agreement with members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), subject to the latter group ratifying the agreement.
“The board passed a motion to ratify the new contract subject to the CUPE members (who are made up of inside employees such as those with Ontario Works, Social Housing and Child Care and custodians) ratifying the deal as well,” said Fern Dominelli, chief administrative officer of the DSB, after a recent board meeting.
The collective agreement between DSB and CUPE 4705 employees had expired on December 31, 2014. On November 18 the two parties signed a memorandum of agreement, pending both ratifying the agreement.
The new contract would be for four years, and run to December 31, 2018. Further details on the agreement can’t be released until both parties ratify the agreement.
Mr. Dominelli also reported that on December 10 the DSB board held an emergency meeting to ratify a new four year contract agreement with OPSEU Local 670, patient transfer services employees. This is a brand new collective agreement involving employees in the pilot program the DSB has been involved in through the North East Local Health Integration Networks (NE LHIN).
“The board (at its meeting December 10) ratified the deal, with the members of OPSEU to vote on ratification,” said Mr. Dominelli. He added both parties bargaining committees had recommended ratification of the new contract.
A third contract negotiation will take place between DSB and paramedics, represented by OPSEU, in the new year, added Mr. Dominelli.
