Delicious offerings from Legion cooks in Little Current

MANITOULIN—In honour of Legion Week, the Manitoulin branches are hosting special events and ask that the Island population get involved and support their local branch.

In Little Current, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #177 is holding a food and winter clothing drive all week and are asking people to drop off their donations to the upstairs hall. They are requesting non-perishable food items for the Manitoulin Help Centre food bank as well as gently used items of warm clothing, including coats, hats, scarves, mitts and gloves. The Legion is also looking for toiletries and baby items. The end date for donation is Saturday morning with an official presentation to take place on Saturday afternoon.

This evening, Wednesday, September 24, the Little Current Legion is also hosting a euchre tournament. All are welcome. The start time is 7:30 pm and participants can look forward to a mystery gift draw.

Save your appetites for this weekend! The Legion has organized some of the best chili cooks in the land for a good old-fashioned chili cook-off on Friday evening. The public will name the best cook, for official Legion bragging rights, and everyone is encouraged to head to the Legion to help with the judging process. For just $5 from 5 to 8 pm you can have as many bowls of chili from your favourite cook(s) as you wish!

The next morning, Saturday, come on back to the Legion for brunch in the upstairs hall from 10 am to 2 pm. Adults are just $7 and children under 12 are $5.

And those famous Legion cooks will just keep on cooking so head back for more delicious food Saturday evening from 4 to 8 pm for Salisbury steak and fried onions on a bun for $5. The Saturday dinner will coincide with the official presentation of the food and winter clothing drive and a presentation of volunteer appreciation certificates.

All donations will help the elderly and local families in Island communities that are less fortunate. Monetary donations are also appreciated and welcomed at each of the branches.

In Gore Bay, at Branch #514, the Legion is hosting a trivia night tonight, Wednesday, with euchre held every Thursday night, both at 7:30 pm.
