MANITOULIN/SUDBURY—The Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board (DSB) has said goodbye to Chief of Paramedic Services Michael Maclsaac and is welcoming Robert Smith to the position.
“Michael MacIsaac is resigning from his position as chief of Paramedic Services in order to pursue his next career endeavour as executive deputy chief of Fire and Paramedic Services with the City of Greater Sudbury,” said DSB CAO Fern Dominelli. “It is with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Michael. While we are happy for this new opportunity, we will miss him here. He has been with the Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB since 2005 and been chief since 2009. Paramedic Services has made many advancements during Michael’s tenure as chief. These advancements have a lot to do with Michael’s devotion to the service, employees and the patients we serve.”
“I am extremely appreciative for his work with the Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB,” he added. “I know that Michael will do extremely well in his new role. I wish him all the best.”
Robert Smith has been appointed Chief of Paramedic Services for Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB effective February 13.
“Rob started his career as a paramedic for Haliburton County in 1985,” said Mr. Dominelli. “He moved on to work for the Metropolitan Toronto Service and in 1988 he became a critical care flight paramedic with the Provincial Air Ambulance Service. In 2000, Rob took on roles with the City of Greater Sudbury, moving to up to the position of deputy chief. In 2011, Rob was recruited by Ornge as the associate vice president of operations, and in 2015 returned north as deputy chief for the Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB.”
Mr. Smith is a recipient of the Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal/Bar for Paramedic Services, which demonstrates the level of professionalism he has displayed for over 32 years in this service.
