MINDEMOYA—The board of directors of the Espanola and District Credit Union have chosen the location for its new branch office to be located in Mindemoya.

Lindsay Liske, chief executive officer of the Credit Union, told the Recorder (after a Credit Union board meeting Tuesday evening), “the board looked at the two proposals we had received, and felt the best site would be the one offered at the Bondi (family) block.”

Mr. Liske explained the new Credit Union branch will be located in the “Bondi block” of property facing Highway 542 adjacent to the Island Foodland parking lot.

It will be built on the property where the building that had most recetly housed Wool ‘n Things (and before that Cadieux Clothing) had been located.

The Credit Union will be one of two occupants of the building once it has been completed.

A new building will be constructed and the Credit Union will be one of two occupants of the building. “We will be taking the front part of the building and have about 1,100 square foot of space,” said Mr. Liske. Construction is slated to start May 1.

“October 1 (2013) has been set for us to move into the new location, and our board feels this is an appropriate time to open,” said Mr. Liske, who noted the board, “had looked at both proposals and felt this one best fit the criteria of the Credit Union. It is an excellent location, which already offers the Island Foodland grocery store, liquor store and pharmacy, and now a financial institution.”

As reported previously, the Credit Union is moving to Mindemoya, having announced it is closing its branch office in Gore Bay.
