GORE BAY—The Christmas tree decoration fundraiser being put on by a group of students at Charles C. McLean Public School in Gore Bay and Dean’s Valu-Mart in Gore Bay is going very well, and with a little less than a week to go it is hoped that the campaign will be as successful as it was in 2017.

“We have sold 1,016 Christmas decorations thus far,” said Dean Moss, operator of Dean’s Valu-Mart, on Monday. During the campaign in 2017, enough decorations were sold that $2,500 was raised for the food bank. We need to sell 250 more decorations in the next week.”

As was reported previously, teacher Colleen Vander Weerden and her Kindergarten class visited Dean’s Valu-Mart in Gore Bay earlier this month to deliver the Christmas tree decorations the students have diligently been making. The decorations were presented to Dean’s, and customers, as they go through the checkout line, will be able to purchase one of the decorations (for $2) to be placed on a Christmas tree in the store.
All the money raised in the decoration sales goes to the Manitoulin Food Bank. Customers can buy the Christmas decorations at Dean’s Valu-Mart until December 24.
