GORE BAY—I hope every mother, grandmother and aunt had a great Mother’s Day!

What did the tree say to spring?

What a re-leaf.

Last Friday, May 11 the Grades 7 and 8 students travelled to Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) for WE Day Manitoulin. WE Day Manitoulin included speakers, singers and songwriters. Each speaker or singer had their own personal story to tell through either speaking or music. Speakers included Danny Lamb, Errol Lee, Shay Lee, A! Persona, Ashley Rose Murphy, Em Jordan and many more!

On Wednesday, May 16 a graduation meeting was held to discuss the Grade 8 graduation in June. Time is ticking down and final decisions are in the process of being made.

Yesterday, May 17, the Grade 6/7s and 8s had a third yoga session with local yoga instructor Pam Wiwchar as a part of the Mind, Body and Spirit Project.

Also on May 17 the Grade 7s got their vaccination needles. Poke, poke.

Today, May 18, the Grade 4s travelled to the Espanola pool for their second session of Swim to Survive. The grade 4s next Swim to Survive trip will be on Friday, May 25.

Students and staff will have Monday, May 21 off as it is May long weekend (the unofficial start of summer).

On Wednesday, May 23, Grade 8s will be going to Manitoulin Secondary School for the grade 8 Shadow Day. The Grade 8s will play ‘ice breaker’ games and then partner up with a high school student in Grades 10-12. The Grade 8 student will follow their partner to their second period class. The purpose of Shadow Day is for the Grade 8 student to learn what classes will be like for them next year in Grade 9.

On Thursday, May 24, Grade 7s and 8s will be holding an Entrepreneur Fair in the library beginning at 11 am. The Grade 7 and 8 students have been creating a business for a little over a month and will be presenting their business and product to all the students at school. Each class will get the opportunity to see the businesses and purchase some of the products. There will be a range of products from foods, jewelry, signs and magnets. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Between May 22 and June 4, the Primary and Junior EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) assessments will be taking place for Grades 3 and 6 students. For more information about EQAO please visit www.eqao.com.

Joke of the week: A man had a pet centipede. He said, “centipede, go get the paper and make it snappy!”

A half hour later the man went outside and said, “I thought I told you to get the paper a half hour ago!”

“Well, I had to put on my shoes,” said the centipede.

Have a great May long weekend!

Upcoming events include the Swim to Survive for Grade 4, Grade 8 Shadow Day at MSS, EQAO assessments, Entrepreneur Fair, and MADD Canada Presentation.

Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
