GORDON—The Gore Bay Curling Club was a very popular place to be on Boxing Day (December 26) this past holiday, as a fun day of curffle took place.
“We held a Boxing Day curffling fun day,” stated Lorraine McDonald, who co-hosted the event along with Marion Hester.
“We had a total of 24 teams (48 curlers in total), along with about 50 visitors throughout the day,” said Ms. McDonald. A hearty bowl of chili was available for players and the Canada-U.S Championship. Junior World hockey championships game was shown on television during the day.
In the first event of the curffle, the father son team of Drew and Austin Purvis won, beating the team of Shaun Riching and Ricky Toner.
The second event saw the team of Helen Orford and Bonnie Orford take first place, with Marc Addison and Jeffrey Riching the runners up.
In the third event, the team of Scott Keller and Ron Kenney took first place, with the runner up team being Troy McDonald and Dylan Hunter.
Ms. McDonald noted that Dan Marois had volunteered to man the bar for the day, while Todd Bailey and Bill Reich took care of the ice surface.
