Big changes coming to Gore Bay waterfront

GORE BAY—Last year Manitoulin Transport acquired the property located at 1 Water Drive in Gore Bay.  This beautiful waterfront property had been home to a restaurant and motel for many years.

“There has been a lot of activity recently and we are now pleased to report the location will be reopening in the spring of 2018,” a press release from Manitoulin Transport, which purchased the property, states,

The Smith family of Manitoulin Transport had the vision to see that this location could once again bring great things to the town of Gore Bay, to Manitoulin Island, and Northern Ontario. To this end, contractors, designers and a management team have been working tirelessly to bring this vision to fruition.

Gord Smith, of Manitoulin Transport, explained that a management team has been selected for the running of both the motel and the restaurant. Richard Anger and Susan Garlock will be operating the new Inn at Gore Bay and The Live Edge casual fine dining establishment. Richard and Susan are the team behind Buoys Eatery and the Manitoulin Pizza Company and have a wealth of experience in the hospitality and service industries.

“We are very excited to be involved with the running and concepts for both the Inn and the restaurant,” said Ms. Garlock. “We are also very proud to be working with the Smith family on this project.”

Mr. Anger added, “this is an amazing opportunity for Susan and myself and we are looking forward to making this location a jewel in the North.”

The Inn at Gore Bay will open its doors as a 10 room boutique type motel. All rooms will be completely refurbished. Elegant bathrooms, beautiful décor, high end bedding, unparalleled service and an amazing waterfront location are just a few of the amenities visitors can expect to find.

The Live Edge is named for the restaurant’s location, being on the edge of the forest and the edge of the water. It also harkens back to days of logging on the Gore Bay waterfront. The Live Edge will feature fresh local foods from local suppliers, served in a contemporary yet rustic setting and prepared using cutting edge technology.

Both businesses will be hiring soon so stay tuned to the web site at theinnatgorebay.ca or email susan@theinnatgorebay.ca
