ALFRED JAMES SHULTZ
September 27, 1935 – September 6, 2019
Alfred James Shultz, born September 27, 1935 in Chalk River, Ontario, died suddenly at his residence in Little Current, Ontario after a brief illness. Born and raised in Chalk River, Ontario, it was his maternal grandfather, Alfred MacDonald, who nurtured young Alfie’s love and respect for all things connected to nature and the great outdoors. Alfie loved playing cards, camping, swimming, telling a good joke and was also able to “cut a mean rug” in his day. A decent athlete in his youth, Alfie pitched in a men’s softball leagues in the City of Sudbury, bowled, and canoed. Living in Falconbridge with his young family, he also helped coach minor league hockey and later in life, supported Kim’s figure skating endeavours. With age, his favourite pastimes included watching every nature program he could on television, as well as most sports, especially hockey, baseball, and curling. Retiring from Falconbridge Nickel Mines as Head of the Accounting Department, he promptly relocated from his home in Garson to Little Current (Manitoulin Island) where he spent many years pursuing his two passions, hunting and fishing, until failing health prevented him from doing so. Alfie was predeceased by wife Raymonde (Chretien) and is survived by his children, Lynne (Ron Monk), Tim (wife Christine), Laurie (John Hoyt) and Kim Kitchikake (Tyson Cranney-Francis). Son of William Parker Shultz and Ida Mae Shultz (Macdonald) predeceased. His sisters Miriam, Leona, Margaret, Rachel, Judith and his twin sister Frances (nicknamed Greta) all predeceased him. Two brothers, Elwood Parker, and infant Alexander also predeceased. Survived by sisters Marion (Wilkin) and Doreen (Chertow). Also survived by grandchildren Ian, Steven, Jessica, Joanna, Martin, Noah, Sarah, Jaxon and Memphis, as well as three great-granddaughters: Evangeline, Julianne, and Juniper. At Alfie’s request there will be no visitation or service. A private family memorial tribute will follow at a later date.
