CENTRAL MANITOULIN – The Central Manitoulin Volunteer Fire Department has added to its firefighting equipment with the recent purchase of a tanker truck.
“We have a new tanker truck,” said John Reid, fire chief of the Central Manitoulin Volunteer Fire Department, on Monday. “We had ordered it last year, but just received it this weekend,” he told the Recorder. He explained that the purchase of the tanker truck had been approved by Central Manitoulin council in last year’s budget. The vehicle cost approximately $145,000.
The tanker, a 2012 model, “was purchased from Eastway Tank based in Nepean,” said Mr. Reid. “It is a tanker, the same as the last one we purchased, with capacity for 1,250 gallons of water on board and a portable tank on each side with 1,500 gallons of water in each. I wanted another 2012 model because we found they are a really good product.”
He noted that while the tanker has 280,000 kilometres on it, “that won’t hurt it at all. It is a really good vehicle. I drove it home Saturday and it ran good all the way home.”
Mr. Reid added that the newest tanker will be located at the Spring Bay Fire Hall as the current vehicle is being put out of service.
