Writer agrees with letter demanding better treatment of dogs

To the Expositor:

This letter is in response to one written by Annette Pearson regarding the two dogs at M’Chigeeng (‘Animals deserve to be treated with humanity,’ November 21, page 4). First of all, thank you so much for bringing this to the attention of those who possibly aren’t aware of the situation. Your letter was right on and very well put. I too am an animal lover, multi-pet owner and supporter of the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Make no mistake, this is a case of abuse and neglect which is written and discussed in most newsletters the SPCA sends out to their supporters. We humans are responsible for domesticating dogs way back and are now held accountable for what happens to them. Any animal (in this case two dogs) who have little or no human contact, tied 24/7, are not only in physical distress but are lonely, frustrated and bored. And yes, for those who don’t think they have feelings, rest assured they do. They too feel pain, cold, hunger, wet, hot, thirsty and unloved. The only way I can see any hope for these two dogs is for someone in their community to step up and make that call to the SPCA.

Why is it in our society the most vulnerable are children, women and animals? Heartbreaking is the only word I can think of.

Sincerely,
Bev Lynch
