Works begins on Kagawong Light House

0

Soil remediation work is currently underway at the Kagawong lighthouse. Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is removing metal impacted soil, believed to have been caused by lead paint used by DFO in the past.

Billings Township CAO Emily Dance said the work is part of the final stages of environmental remediation work at the lighthouse that was initiated by DFO several years ago.

Vegetation clearing, excavation and backfilling work is expected to be completed this week and re-establishment of grass and vegetation will be done in the spring. Lane reductions may occur during the work.
