CENTRAL MANITOULIN—A design by Richard Maloney has been declared the winner of the Municipality of Central Manitoulin logo contest, securing top bragging rights but not necessarily a pce on the town’s letterhead.
“The winning logo has been accepted and the $100 prize awarded,” confirmed Mayor Richard Stephens, adding the caveat that “(it is) not necessarily the logo that the town will be using.”
“Not only do we not guarantee that we will use it,” said Councillor Patricia MacDonald, “but that we can make changes to it. There was no guarantee at the time that we would go forward and use that as a logo.”
The motion moved by Councillor Derek Stephens and seconded by Councillor Linda Farquhar and passed by council reaffirmed that position: “that the council declare entry number one to be the winner of the logo design contest with the municipality reserving all rights as declared in the contest rules.”
“We thank all those that submitted designs,” read the official release of the design by Nancy Kinoshameg, the town’s Economic Development Officer, who also added the caveat: “Winning the logo design contest does not necessarily mean it will become the new logo of the municipality. The Municipality of Central Manitoulin reserves the right to modify the winning logo to better suit the needs of the municipality.”
The original contest came about through an expressed desire by mayor and council to harness the creative skills and input of the community to find the new image for Central Manitoulin.
