In loving memory of William “Willie” John Newlands who passed away peacefully at the Mindemoya Hospital on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the age of 74. Survived by his beloved wife Audrey. Loving father of Heather Newlands and Francois Masbou of South Carolina, Oliver and Diane Newlands of Ice Lake. Proud Grandpa of Mathew and Carly, Oliver and Sophie. Brother of George and wife Edith Newlands of New Caledonia, Rick and Karen Saltarelli, Michele and Calvin Potter, Rose and John Hawkins. Remembered by his nieces and nephews and many cousins in Scotland. In 1963 he married Audrey and transitioned her family’s business from boat building to marine and small engine repair, maintenance and storage. The business continued to grow and evolve. For several years he did volunteer work for the fire department, including being fire chief for a while. Willie also worked at the water treatment centre, delivered rural mail, and drove school bus for a number of years. Willie really enjoyed spending time with family and friends, always ready for a coffee, a chat and a good chuckle. We will all miss his quick wit, very generous nature and quiet intelligence. Visitation was from 2 pm – 4 pm and 7 pm – 9 pm on Sunday, December 18, 2011. Funeral was at 11 am on Monday, December 19, 2011, all at the Park Centre in Kagawong. Burial in Cedars Cemetery, Kagawong. Donations to Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary or to the Kagawong Museum would be appreciated in Willie’s memory.
