WILLIAM EDWARD MEGWONABE
(Andrews)
January 26, 1940 – April 22, 2024
William Edward Megwonabe
(Andrews) passed away April 22, 2024. Edward is predeceased by his parents William and Lucy Ann (Niganigijig) Megwanabe; his siblings Irene (Conrad), Wesley (Mary), Henry (Jean), Louise, Pauline, George and Jim (Nora). Ed was an avid fisherman, guide and hunter. He was known as a jack of all trades, but will be especially remembered as a master fish filleter as you would never find a bone in any fish he cleaned. He was also the right hand man when it came to making maple syrup at the sugar camp. In his younger years he spent some time working for the Whitefish River First Nation maintenance department, but for the majority of his career he spent it doing what he loved, being out on the lake as a fishing guide up north. He also enjoyed being a member of a bowling league for many years, and as he got older he continued to enjoy berry picking, playing bingo, playing cards with friends and family and watching different Canadian sports team compete, although his favourite was the Toronto Blue Jays. He cherished spending quality time with his family by taking them to his fishing “hot spots”, but he was most happy when everyone would come
together for a family gathering. He was always eager to share his knowledge with the younger generations as he was always willing to give tips and advice to those who asked. He will be sadly missed by his siblings Lawrence (Jean) and Beatrice (Julian), his brother-in-law Fred, his many nieces, nephews and especially by Nico, Deacon, Caleb and Haisley who called him “Papa”. He will also be missed by his furry friend Chumlee, who he referred to as “Bebe”. Edward rested at the Whitefish River First Nation community centre on Wednesday afternoon, April 24, 2024. The funeral servicewas on Friday, April 26. Arrangements by Bourcier Funeral Home Ltd, Espanola.
