WILHELMINA (KATE) ROY
Sunrise July 18, 1948 – Sunset September 3, 2022
Kate Roy, a resident of M’Chigeeng First Nation, began her spirit journey peacefully on Saturday morning
at the Mindemoya Hospital on September 3, 2022. She was born on Mnidoo Mnising, in Manitowaning, daughter of the late Jim (M’Chigeeng) and Christine (Wiikwemkoong) Panamick. She had a long career at the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation in M’Chigeeng in pioneering the revitalization of Ojibwe language and culture. After retirement, she continued her Anishinabemowin work in many different settings. In her spare time, she enjoyed visiting with her sisters, going to yard sales, watching sports including baseball, hockey and tennis and was always up-to-date on current events with her favourite news channels. Kate is predeceased by husband Clifford Debassige-baa (M’Chigeeng). Loving and loved mother of Beverley (John), and twins Stephanie (Brian predeceased) and Scott, and stepson Luke. Grandmother of Shauna, Katelyn, Cassandra, Scott Jr, and Brian Bisson Jr. (Sonny).
Loving and loved sister of Isadore Panamick (predeceased) (wife Angeline predeceased), Johnny (predeceased), Vincent, Henry (Denise), Hazel, Joe (Virginia), Eileen (known as Sweety Pie), Jimmy (Anita), and Bernard. Special sister-in-law to Clifford-baa’s siblings. Auntie to many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends offered condolences at the Island Funeral Home in Little Current on September 5, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass celebrating Kate’s life was held at Immaculate Conception Church, M’Chigeeng on September 6, 2022 at 11 am. Feast followed after cremation ceremony
at M’Chigeeng Cemetery on September 9, 2022 at 4 pm.
