CHELMSFORD—The Ministry of Labour is investigating after the tragic death of a Wiikwemkoong man at a Chelmsford jobsite on Monday, August 21.
Janet Deline, a media spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour, told The Expositor that the ministry was notified on Monday, August 21 of an incident at a private residential construction site where one worker was fatally injured and another wounded after the roof trusses collapsed. The employer was Pro Steel North based out of Wiikwemkoong.
Ms. Deline said that two inspectors with the ministry arrived on scene that day and issued two orders to the company to produce documentation. The following day, on August 22, two inspectors and an engineer returned to the scene and issued a further order to the homeowner to produce a plan on how to safely remove the damaged trusses.
On August 24, the inspectors returned to the site. As of press time Monday, the two orders for documentation had not been provided to the ministry by the employer, nor has the order from the homeowner.
The deceased has been identified as Carl Peltier of Wiikwemkoong. He would have turned 54 today, Wednesday, August 30. His funeral was held at the Holy Cross Mission Church in Wiikwemkoong on Friday, August 25.
The investigation into the fatality is ongoing.
