WIIKWEMKOONG—Are youuuuuu ready tooo… oh wait, that’s another wrestling organization’s catchphrase… still, get ready for some stellar wrestling action as the villains and heroes of the Wiikwemkoong Wrestling Championships (WWC) are coming back to the ring in the Wiikwemkoong Thunderdome on Sunday, August 7 of the Wiikwemkoong Powwow Weekend.
Principal Paul Wright was brought in by WWC founder Greg Odjig to help put together this year’s show following the event’s two-year hiatus, so “cut the crap or get the strap” is the name of the game.
Mr. Odjig, or Odjig Thundercloud as he is known in the ring, is the reigning WWC champ, having most recently defended his title at the expense of a busted open nose during the Sunday, July 2 Battle for the Nations event in Serpent River. The Thundercloud will be meeting the number one contender Kevyn Kross in a family-friendly, high flying pro-wrestling match.
Taking to the ring will also be two-time former WWC champion Vinnie DaVinci, the ‘Sin City Saint,’ former inter-tribal champ Diego DaVinci, ‘Principal’ Paul Wright, ‘The Death Merchant’ Jaxon Payne, Warren Slade, ‘The Backwoods Butcher’ Rusty Blackwell and Buck Gunderson, just to name a few.
The action is already heating up online as the contenders call each other out and verbally spar on the WWC page on Facebook.
Tickets are available at Buzwah Toys and Variety at 922 Wikwemikong Way and at D & N Variety, 1 Robinson Street in Little Current.
Doors at the Thunderdome open at 7 pm August 6 with the first bell going off at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children. So, come for the powwow and stay for the WWC action.
