WIIKWEMKOONG—Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) is proud to announce the implementation of a new offender management program. This program will improve the force’s ability to effectively track and manage high-risk offenders, recidivist offenders, offenders released on court-imposed conditions and offenders released with a tracking bracelet.
“This innovative offender management program is designed to enhance law enforcement capabilities across the territory by providing a live feed platform for tracking individuals wearing electronic monitoring bracelets,” said Ron Gignac, Chief of Police, WTPS. “The implementation of this program marks a significant step forward in our commitment to community safety. By having access to real-time information about offenders, we can better protect our citizens and crack down on violent, repeat offenders.”
The Wikwemikong Tribal Police has custom made the offender management program alongside their officers to ensure it is tailored to suit the needs of the Wiikwemkoong community. To support the program, WTPS is also scheduled to enter the Provincial dashboard bail compliance system by the end of 2025, allowing for further information sharing on offenders released on bail with firearms related offenses.
Managed with support from the Ontario Provincial Police and made possible through collaboration with Ontario’s Solicitor General, this initiative represents a major advancement in public safety efforts for Wiikwemikoong Unceded Territory and the province of Ontario.
The launch of the offender management program demonstrates the force’s commitment towards fostering a stronger and safer community through enhanced collaboration with provincial authorities and other law enforcement partners.
