(WIKWEMIKONG, ON) – It has been almost one year since the untimely death of Korean war veteran Jim Still of Little Current who died, August 30th, 2017, a result of a vicious beating he sustained while a resident of the Wikwemikong Nursing home.
On Friday, June 8, 2018, Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service arrested Joseph Mark Edwards, 64-years-old, from Wikwemikong, Ontario. He has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault, contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC), and,
- Aggravated assault, contrary to Section 268 of the CC.
Mr. Still’s body underwent an autopsy on September 5, 2017, family and friends have been waiting for months to hear what had exactly happened to their loved one.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on June 15, 2018.
The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service is continuing their investigation under the direction of Detective Inspector Mark Zulinski of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Coroner – Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) in Sudbury.
