Wiikwemkoong welcomes new director of operations

WIIKWEMKOONG—Following the retirement of long-time Wiikwemkoong Director of Operations Wayne Osawamick, Kevin Wassegijig has been hired as his successor, starting his new role with the community this week.

“Mr. Wassegijig has extensive experience with Ontario First Nation communities and in other areas that include working with the provincial government, corporate business, not-for-profit community institutions, community relations and charitable community organizations,” said Wiikwemkoong Ogimaa Duke Peltier in a press release.

Mr. Wassegijig’s most recent employment was with the Mississaugas of the New Credit where he held the position of director of sustainable economic development. Mr. Wassegijig’s past work includes working with the senior management team at Casino Rama, the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, Ministry of Tourism and Recreation, is a volunteer at the Georgian College as a member of the Board of Governors and chair of the Anishnaabe Education and Training Circle.

A meet and greet will be held for Mr. Wassegijig at the council chambers on Tuesday, April 18th.
