Wiikwemkoong marks Awareness Day for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

NO MORE STOLEN SISTERS—Sunday, May 5 was Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Awareness Day and Wiikwemkoong hosted a walk to raise awareness of the plight that continues to plague the nation. Dolly Peltier volunteered her time before the walk, painting the red handprint that has come to signify the MMIWG movement on walkers’ faces.
A women’s hand drum group drums and sings in memory and in honour of those MMIWG. All of the walkers wore t-shirts designed by Wiikwemkoong artist Elijah Bell.
