Court heard that on October 9, 2016, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry received a report that a man had been shot while small game hunting north of Cartier. Conservation officers and members of the OPP attended the scene and conducted a joint investigation. It was determined that the woman, a passenger in a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle, noticed a grouse and loaded her shotgun within the vehicle. While attempting to exit the vehicle, the firearm went off and shot the driver in the leg below the knee. The driver’s injuries required treatment in the hospital.
Justice of the Peace Michael Kitlar heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sudbury, on July 14, 2017.
