Wayne Robert Debassige, a member of M’Chigeeng First Nation, passed away suddenly at his home in Sudbury, on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the age of 61 years. Wayne was born in M’Chigeeng and was a proud son of the late Ernest L. and Theresa Ann Debassige. Wayne worked for INCO for 8 years, followed by years of housing construction, to most recently, building superintendent in Sudbury. Wayne was also a longtime Legion member, in honour of his late father, Ernest Debassige. Wayne also served his community in the role of referee and umpire. In doing so, he made several close friends that gave him unique nicknames such as Water-Bag, Water-Buffalo to Weiner Bag. Wayne will be remembered for his joking ways where he shared his gift of laughter, until his face was beet red. Wayne had several pastimes that included playing horseshoes, pool and watching all sports, but most of all, enjoyed the company of family and friends while sipping his beer. Loving and loved partner of Diann Panamick. Dear father of Julian Migwans (Tiffany) and Yolanda Trudeau. Special Grandfather to Damion, Deontae, Diondre and Dawnisha. Dear brother of Donald (Valerie), Marie (Chris), Terry, Brian (predeceased), Cecile (Cheyenne), Howard (April), Michael (Pam), Keith, Lisa (Meeshenn), Robert Jr. (predeceased) and Audrey. Wayne was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews, and special Godfather to Ashley Migwans, Jade Peltier and Lacey Panamick. Wayne will be remembered by childhood friend, Earl Debassige and best friends Jack McKerchie, Richard Armstrong, Edward and Tammy Debassige. Wayne will be missed and remembered by many family members and close friends. Friends and family may call Saswaahns Spiritual Centre for visitation after 3 pm Thursday, November 16, 2017. Cremation to follow. There was a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2 pm.
