The Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry – Sudbury District is advising area residents that a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety is in effect in the District.
Residents should be aware that conditions could be dangerous for boaters, anglers, swimmers and other recreational users. Although no flooding is anticipated based on current forecasts, special caution should be used around rivers and streams. Please alert any children under your care to these dangers and supervise their activities.
MNR is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Further updates will be issued as appropriate.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Description of Weather System
The next few days in northeastern Ontario will see a low-pressure system move into the area, bringing with it rainfall and above seasonal temperatures. There is the risk of thunderstorms Tuesday evening and into Wednesday; however, precipitation amounts are expected to be relatively low. Seasonal temperatures are expected to return Friday with the possibility of additional precipitation.
Description of Current Conditions
Stream flows and levels across the region are moderately elevated as a result of the ongoing spring thaw. There is still snowpack remaining in across the region, which is has a high water content. With the above seasonal temperatures and expected precipitation, we anticipate that watercourses may respond quickly.
