Volunteer Fire Department’s quick response contains dangerous blaze

A travel trailer was destroyed in a fire on Ice Lake Drive in Gordon/Barrie Island last Friday. Thankfully, the swift response of the Gore Bay Volunteer Fire Department ensured that no one was injured in the blaze.

“The travel trailer fire occurred at 765 Ice Lake Drive,” said Gore Bay Fire Chief Mike Addison. “There were two trailers on the property, one destroyed in the fire. We are not sure what caused the fire. We’re looking at a couple of possible causes. The fire is not deemed suspicious.”

The fire destroyed the travel trailer owned by Kim Lafond, said Mr. Addison, noting that Ms. Lafond’s father owns the property.

The Gore Bay Fire Department was called to the blaze at 2:50 pm on Friday, May 17. “The fire did spread into the bush, fortunately not very far, but we were able to put it out,” said Mr Addison. “However, the travel trailer was a total loss.” He noted the two trailers were in close proximity to each other, and the fire burned close to an outbuilding near the second trailer. Fortunately, the fire crew doused the fire before it could spread to the adjacent building.
