Veronica Marjorie Jacko, a resident of Wiikwemkoong, died peacefully at the age of 72 at the Manitoulin Health Centre on Thursday, October 13, 2016. Veronica is survived by her loving husband and soul mate Andrew Manitowabi. Also survived by her children Jacinta Manitowabi (Rudy Corbiere), Marian Jacko (James Pick), Noella Jacko (Rudy Mandamin), Diane Jacko (James Nayanookeesic). Beloved stepmother to Sharon, Judy, James (Bonnie), Walter (Marcia), Jennifer, Erin (Blair) and Linda (predeceased), Farrell (predeceased), Lester (predeceased), Ross (predeceased), Linda Gauthier (Dennis), Wayne (Lorraine), Kenneth (Hilda), Mary-lou, Darlene, Art (Marida), Stephen, Jeannette (Rene). Veronica is Grandmother to 75 grandchildren and Great-Grandmother to 60 great-grandchildren. Godmother to Andrea, Tahshiina, Gail, Bonita, and Cory. Dear daughter of the late John David Manitowabi and Agatha Nee Mendoshkong. Dear Sister of Shirley (predeceased), Mary Grace McGregor (Jim), Joyce Gauvreau (Gordon), Medora Hicks (Don), David Manitowabi (Linda), Ronald Manitowabi, and Dominic Manitowabi. Veronica will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Veronica was a special master to her beloved cat Charlie, Sassy (predeceased), Mukwa (predeceased). Veronica enjoyed reading novels, crafting magazines, quilting magazines and watching her daily soap operas. Her favorite hobbies were beading, knitting, cooking, canning, sewing, and making Native crafts. She also enjoyed her regular visits with her friends Marie Kimewon and Bev Naokwegijig. Veronica was trained as a registered practical nurse and spent her career caring for the elderly residents at the Wikwemikong Nursing Home. She also worked with the Long Term Care team with the Wikwemikong Health Centre. Veronica is described as a kind, caring, loving, wonderful person and someone who had a big heart. She will be dearly missed by many in her family and community. Rested at St. Ignatius Church, Buzwah from 1 pm on Saturday, October 15, 2016.
