Vehicle strikes car, Gore Bay Medical Centre, no one injured

GORE BAY—Fortunately, no one was seriously injured after a two-vehicle accident that began with one vehicle leaving the driveway of the Gore Bay Medical Centre, striking another parked vehicle and then running into the entrance area of the building.

Constable John Robertson, with the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) told The Expositor the OPP received a call of the accident at 11:45 am last Thursday morning. “A pick-up truck leaving the parking lot at the Gore Bay Medical Centre struck a parked vehicle (an SUV CRX) on (Meredith) street and then drove into the entrance breezeway of the medical centre.”

A witness to the accident, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Expositor, “I heard the first impact of the two vehicles. I saw the Dodge Ram pick-up truck pull out from the parking lot hitting the SUV while it was parked on the street. The driver of the truck continued to strike the second vehicle with her vehicle, then suddenly stopped for a moment, pulled into the parking lane, and the truck accelerated and made a hard right turn hitting the entranceway of the medical centre building.”

“The pickup truck had gone over the curb (in front of the parked vehicle) striking the SUV,” the witness explained. “The driver of the truck hit the car with both the front and back end of the truck.”

The driver of the pick-up truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The owner of the parked vehicle was in the building at the time of the accident.

The two vehicles sustained damage in the accident, along with the medical centre building entranceway. The accident is still under investigation.
