Valentine’s Day poem contestants & winner

Thank you to everyone who sent in a submission for The Expositor’s Valentine’s Day poem contest, the submissions (and winner) are below

St. Valentines

I’ll bet St. Valentine didn’t know
What his name would become:
That we would celebrate in tribute to him
A day of sweets and love.

I’ll bet St. Valentine never dreamed
Of the cards and gifts we would give
To the people we love from day to day
That make life fun to live.

I’ll bet St. Valentine didn’t know
That this day would be known worldwide,
Or that his name would be known for love
And would he gleam with pride!

I doubt St. Valentine knew at all
What in his name we would do,
And I bet St. Valentine didn’t know
Of this love I feel for You!

To my beautiful wife Kristie
from your loving husband,
Richard Deforge

From a Cheeky Wife

“Running through your mind all night and all day”
Even when I’m right beside you, you would say.
Well, my legs are tired but my heart is not
No matter how the day ends or the start it got.
When I see those eyes and that face,
Gives me chills and heart quickens its pace.
Make that smile, say your cheesy line,
I’m not that tired, now everything is fine.
Together we can make our hearts race
in unison, at a quickened pace.
Know the mission and know your duty:
Ease my mind and rub my booty!

In This Love For You

In this love for you
There is the fullness of
Body and mind;
Time has bound us
And our hearts expand…
Our minds embrace
The journeys taken.

In this love for you
We travel together,
Often walking
Familiar pathways,
Sometimes divergent
But following the direction
Of unbroken love.

We know the way:
In my love for you,
In your love for me,
In this love for us,
Together always

No More Tomorrows

If tomorrow was my last day
to live my life with you,
I’d spend every waking moment
making all your dreams come true.
We’d live a life so happy
there would be no wasted time
I’d hug and kiss and love you
and tell you, I’m glad that you’re mine.
If tomorrow was my last day
I’d want to be sure you know
that you’re my one and only love
and I truly love you so.
If I could see tomorrow
I hope that you’ll be there;
I want to spend my life with you
and hold you close and near.
I would pray for another day
and hope this life goes on
I want us to be here together
hoping tomorrow will come.
I want you to know, my darling,
that you are truly, my only one

The best part of my day!

Thank you for always being by my side.
When we made our vows, we pledged our love, my loving bride.
My feelings, I can’t hide.

After a long day at work, seeing you is the best part of my day.
When my spirit sees you, it jumps up and shouts, “Hurray!”

Always saying, “Good night”, “Good morning”, and “I love you!” everyday
but especially today, on Valentine’s Day!

I love you, Denise! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Untitled

July 14th, 1960 two very young people
made the bells ring on St. Andrew’s steeple.

Rev. Smith was the minister that day
as we said our vows and then did pray.

Left Manitoulin, but didn’t want to go,
to make our home in the city of Toronto.

Babies Christine and Stephen born two years apart
made this couple have joyful hearts.

Ten years later came Anita, so sweet,
our happy family was so complete.

In 1981 we left our home one day
back to Manitoulin where we would stay.

Our children now have all grown
have homes and children of their own.

Now 2023, the years have past
where did they go and why so fast?

We sit and ponder of days gone by,
Sixty-two happy years in the blink of an eye.

Good health and happiness: we thank God above
all because two people fell in love.

Soulmates Are Real

Rewind back to Valentine’s 1993,
Hard to believe that was 30 years ago, you see.
You caught my eye across the room, our attraction at the shack,
One dance in your arms, and there was no looking back.
Phone cords pulled under the door, talking all night long,
Who knew our natural connection would be so strong.
Years passed and we grew up, ready to start our life,
One day your prom date, the next moment your wife.
When I look into your eyes, I see your heart wide open,
Ready to be giving and loving, I feel your strong arms close in.
Lord knows we’ve had our ups and downs, life isn’t always easy,
Staying by each other’s side has made it truly pleasing.
Two beautiful girls, we count our blissful blessings,
In 2023 we cherish our 20th year of wedding.
Imagine our bond growing deeper, true soulmates meant to be,
I thank heaven every day, you mean the world to me.

Today, Tomorrow & Furever

He lays around all day
With no care in the world
As I say to myself
“I am such a lucky girl”!

He pays attention when I am home
And gives the best cuddles
As the breadwinner of the house
I’ve learned how to hustle.

I buy him food
And cook him dinner
(And we all know
he’s not a strong swimmer.)

Some say he is chubby
or overweight
I say “There’s more to love…
what makes you that great?”

Doubt is little
And so is his nose
I call them little beans
But most call them toes

I try to keep him inside
All safe and warm
As he sleeps by the heater
His Winter day the norm.

To my love,
He is furry and small
7 years and counting-
I am in for the long haul.

From the tip of his whiskers
to the end of his tail
I write a poem about my cat
That you read without fail.

And the winner is…

Idyllic Valentine

I don’t know how I found you,
I don’t know where you’ve been,
But in another lifetime,
I would search for you again.

I never thought I needed love,
And I never needed company,
But now it seems I can’t imagine
A life without a you and me.

I don’t know how you found me,
I don’t know where we’ll be,
But in the years that are to come,
By your side I’ll live happily.
