World is definitely ready for you
To the Expositor:
As residents of the London (southwestern Ontario) area, and as Manitoulin summer visitors at Providence Bay Park for most of the summer months, we would like to comment on the Valedictorian speech, which was given by Harrison Noble at the 2014 Graduation Ceremonies for Manitoulin Secondary School (as reported in The Expositor’s June 18 edition). We were greatly impressed by what we read.
We’d like to address our remarks in this public forum to Mr. Noble:
“As former teachers (now retired) who have attended numerous graduation ceremonies throughout our careers, we have heard and read many valedictory speeches. We were truly impressed by what you had to say at your graduation. In our opinions, your address was the best we have ever read.
What an amazing young man you seem to be! For one so young, you have shown great insight and wisdom, along with a keen sense of humour, honesty and humility. One can only hope that your fellow graduates, teachers, family and friends to whom you were speaking truly appreciated what you most eloquently had to say.
You ended your speech with a question: ‘Is that world ready for us?’ To us, the answer is clear: ‘Yes, it definitely is, especially as it knows that it’s future is bright and in good hands with our youth such as you.’
Congratulations on a job ‘well done’! Much success to you in all your future endeavours!
We fully appreciate that it is highly unlikely that our paths will ever cross. However, were they to do so, we would consider it a privilege to personally express our thanks and congratulations to you.
And yes, we will add bacon!”
