LAKE HURON—A fourth high-altitude airborne object has been shot down by an American fighter jet in a joint United States-Canada military mission on Sunday over Lake Huron, south of Manitoulin Island.
On Saturday, another airborne object was shot down by the joint military mission led by the North American Aerospace Defense Command over the Yukon. And on Friday, another high-altitude object was shot down over Alaskan waters.
These three events follow the much-followed drama of the so-called Chinese spy balloon that was shot down in the US Atlantic coastal waters near South Carolina.
“It’s pretty serious when they close airspace,” said a person close to the Gore Bay Airport, which received noticed at 2:55 pm Sunday that aerospace was closed south of Manitoulin Island.
The only other time aerospace has been closed for emergency purposes near Manitoulin was during 9-11.
The object was shot down north of Michigan, over the Canadian waters of Lake Huron.
