GORDON—There was a two-way tie for first place in the championship flite of the annual mixed open tournament held at Manitoulin Golf June 10.

The two teams, made up of Stewart Simpson and Sheila Bray and Arron and Amy Assinewai both posted an 18-hole score of four under par 68. Placing third in the championship flight was the team of Andrew Corbiere and Ramona Ense with a score of 74.

Taking top spot in the second flight was the team of Harrison Noble and Lauren Booth with a score of 81, one better than the team of Kevin and Adrienne Kuula, with 82.

There was a total of 14 teams in the tournament.

“It was a very good weekend, course and clubhouse staff did a fantastic job,” Cheryl Deeg, manager of the clubhouse at Manitoulin Golf told The Expositor.

Ms. Deeg pointed out that Manitoulin Golf is holding a silent online auction to win a prize for two to golf with country music star Jamie Warren on Friday, June 23, followed by a buffet dinner at Watersedge Restaurant in Gore Bay, and to see Mr. Warren’s show that evening at Watersedge.

The auction opened on June 7.

“Our top bid so far is $100 right now,” Ms. Deeg told The Expositor early last week. She added that proceeds from the silent auction will go toward a kids/family fun day and barbecue to be held at Manitoulin Golf on July 5.

“We could use golf clubs, golf balls and tees for the kids/family fun day,” said Ms. Deeg.
