AUNDECK OMNI KANING—An advance poll for the election of chief and five councillors for the Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation will be held this Wednesday, August 27 with the regular poll on Saturday. Incumbent Patsy Corbiere is seeking re-election for chief while Peter (Benji) Nahwegahbow has also been nominated for the position of chief. Marvin Assinewai was also nominated for chief, but withdrew his name from the ballot on Monday of this week.
Twenty-five individuals were nominated on Monday, August 18 for the five councillor positions. They are, in alphabetical order, Craig D. Abotossaway, Jason W. Abotossaway, Kelly R. Abotossaway, Michael L. Abotossaway, Terence S. Abotossaway, Irene C. Altiman, Marvin R. Assinewai, Cheryl M. Audette, Cynthia M. Behm, Brian L. Corbiere, Darrell P.P. Corbiere, Ryan C.G. Corbiere, Christine A.P. Esquimaux, Trevor E. Esquimaux, Anna M. General, Deborah K. King, Ingrid J. Madahbee, Joyce B. Madahbee, Monica R. Madahbee, Genevive (Jenny) J.M. McGraw, Nicholas J. McGraw, Alfred B. Nahwegahbo, Georgina Nahwegahbow, Karen T. McGraw-Shokan and Beverly A.G. Wilson.
Michael Abotossaway, Terry Abotossaway, Marvin Assinewai, Ryan Corbiere and Karen McGraw-Shokan are all seeking re-election to the council table. Dawn Madahbee and Scott Madahbee will not be seeking re-election.
The advance poll will take place today, Wednesday, August 27, from 6 to 9 pm and the regular poll will be held this Saturday, August 30 from 9 am to 6 pm at the Aundeck Omni Kaning Community Centre.
