AUNDECK OMNI KANING FIRST NATION— On August 26, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a Controlled Dugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant at a residence on Maple Crescent in Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation.
The OPP, with the assistance of the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Services (UCCM), executed a CDSA Warrant to Search. As a result, approximately $15,000 in Canadian currency, over 50 grams of suspected Fentanyl, approximately 12 grams of suspected Cocaine, other unknown substances, digital scales and edged weapons were seized. The estimated value of the drugs is approximately $28,000.
The OPP’s Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, and uniform members were involved with the investigation.
Joel MCGRAW, 37 years-old, of Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation was charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code (CC)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
Tyrell POWELL, 19 years-old, of Toronto was charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code (CC)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
The accused persons were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Gore Bay on August 27, 2022.
