Tractor trailer driver charged with careless driving


WEST PARRY SOUND – On March 20, 2014 at approximately 3:35 p.m. members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and a charter bus. The collision occurred on Highway 69 south of Pickerel River Road in Mowat Township. Investigation revealed the tractor trailer was travelling southbound and crossed the center line striking the northbound bus. The bus was loaded with passengers from Sudbury. Minor injuries resulted to both drivers.

Driver of the tractor trailer, James LOUCKS, 57 years of age from Owen Sound, was charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

A Careless Driving charge under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act is described as a person who drives a vehicle without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for others using the highway. This charge carries a payable fine of $490 and 6 demerit points on a first offence.
