NORTHERN ONTARIO—A new tourism plan being developed by the Northeast Community Network (NECN) is being developed to draw more snowmobilers to Northern Ontario.
Sylvie Fontaine, chair of NECN, says the aim of the plan is to stimulate economic growth for snowmobile operators, stakeholders and organizations in the Northeast region.
“Snowmobiling has a significant impact on our local economy and it is critical that we activate strategies to foster long-term growth and prosperity of the tourism sector,” Ms. Fontaine said in a news release.
Over the next several months, NECN will gather feedback from stakeholders, clubs, volunteers, businesses and community stakeholders regarding snowmobile tourism within the region. A survey is currently underway and a series of focus group sessions is scheduled to take place later in April. The goal is to identify potential tourism development opportunities and strategies within the region.
