Three running for chief of Sheguiandah First Nation

SHEGUIANDAH FIRST NATION— The list of candidates for Sheguiandah First Nation chief and council has been narrowed down in the final push toward the November 6 election day.

There are three running for the title of chief of the community: Andrew Aguonia, Orville Aguonie and Ron Aguonie (Neganiwina).

Ten have put their names forward for the three position of band councillor: Jake Ago Neh, Alison Aguonie, James Atkinson, Jackie Bowerman (incumbent), Constance Donaldson (incumbent), Robert Manitowabi, Edward Mishibinijima (Simon) Sr., Melvina Sutton, Georgina Thompson (incumbent) and Pearl Waindubence.

Sheguiandah First Nation has been without a chief since June when Chief Richard Shawanda passed away.

The election will be held on Friday, November 6 at the Sheguiandah First Nation band office.
