There are many ways to cast your ballot from now until Monday, October 19

MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Island residents are reminded that they can exercise their right to vote ahead of the October 19 federal election.

The Elections Canada office for Manitoulin is located at 5 Worthington Street in Little Current, across from the Anchor Inn and Acme Motors (on the same side of the street as the ramp) and is open 12 hours a day from Monday to Friday inclusive, Saturdays from 9 am to 6 pm and Sunday from noon until 4 pm.

Anyone who is 18-years-old by Election Day, October 19, and is a Canadian citizen, can vote any time during those hours until Tuesday, October 13, through what is called a ‘Special Ballot.’

Elections Canada will also be holding an Advance Poll for four days over the Thanksgiving Weekend, October 9, 10, 11, and 12 from 12 noon until 8 pm. The locations for the advanced polls are the Little Current Recreation Centre, Mindemoya Municipal Complex and Gore Bay Municipal Centre.

Voters can also vote at the Elections Canada office in Little Current during the Advance Polls days from 9 am until 9 pm daily.

If an elector doesn’t vote at the Advance Polls they have one more day to vote at the Elections Canada office until Tuesday, October 13 at 6 pm. After that date you will only be able to vote on Election Day, Monday, October 19. Polls are open on the 19th from 9:30 am until 9:30 pm.

There will also be a mobile poll on October 19 beginning at the Manitoulin Lodge nursing home in Gore Bay from 9:30 am to 1 pm and then at the Centennial Manor in Little Current from 3 to 5 pm.

To vote, electors need proof of name and proof of address. A driver’s licence is ideal, but if you don’t have one you will need two pieces of approved identification, one with an address. The address could be anything as simple as a hydro bill, a bank statement, cheque, or library card if it shows your address. These are only a few of many examples of acceptable identification. If in doubt call the Elections Canada office at 705-368-2411.

A reminder that the Voter Information cards received in the mail are not acceptable ID because they are open to fraud.

For further information call the Little Current office at 705-368-2411.
